Spring Is Almost Here. Time To Spruce Up Your Signage!
Winter may not be officially over (just 30 days to go!), but it’s never too early to start planning for spring and maintaining your outdoor signage.
So far, it’s been a somewhat mild winter in Maryland, but we’ve been hit with a few small snow storms…and a massive blizzard! Extreme winter weather takes a toll on anything that permanently stays outdoors, including your company’s signage.
With proper care and maintenance, your signs should last a long time. Removing dirt and other environmental contaminants on a regular basis can significantly improve the appearance and longevity of your signage.
Did your signage take a beating during the winter months? Outdoor signs are fairly easy to clean, but there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure the best results when cleaning them on your own.
One of the most important things to remember is to avoid any product containing ammonia or harsh chemicals. Also, try to avoid using rough cloths or pads. This could cause the dirt on your signage to scratch the surface.
Always wash with clean, lukewarm water mixed with a mild soap or detergent, then rinse with warm water. If possible, hand-wash your sign from the top down. Start by flushing your sign with clean water to loosen dirt particles. For a streak-free sign, wash and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. For signage that is out of reach, you can simply allow it to air dry.
Try to avoid power-washing if at all possible. Though it’s weather-resistant and durable, older vinyl signage could tear or peel with a large amount of pressure.
If your signs require more than soap and water, you can purchase cleaning supplies specific to your material. Be sure to double-check with a professional before applying any cleaning agent to your sign; this will ensure you’re not damaging it.
If you’re unsure about what type of material your sign is constructed of, you may want to call a professional signage company. When in doubt, let the experts clean, and if necessary, print and replace worn signage to give your business a fresh look…just in time for spring!
